Gosht means meat in Bangla, and jhaal = spicy. Gosht — any red meat. Aptly this recipe will work for any red meat. In this case, I’m using bone-in beef chunks.
More often than not most of my non desi and some of my desi friends express to me how hard they think curry is to make. For me it’s probably one of the easiest things to make. Granted it does take time to build the layers of flavours.
And I promise you THIS IS THE EASIEST CURRY you’ll make.
Ingredients
- 3 lb beef with bones or chuck meat cubes
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon coriander
- 1/3 teaspoon turmeric
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/2 teaspoon Kashmiri chili powder
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 2 teaspoon garlic paste
- 2 teaspoon ginger paste
- 1/2 cup fried onions
- 2 tablespoon ghee
Directions
- Set your oven to 350°.
- In a cold Dutch oven or a oven safe pot with a lid add in your ghee, spices, garlic, ginger, salt and fried onions.
- Set the pot on medium and wait till the spices start to sizzle and cook them for 3 to 5 minutes before adding in the beef and throughly mix it with the spice mixture.
- Cover the pot and let the meat fry for 2 to 3 minutes — make sure to check the beef isn’t burning. Add a splash of water if needed and cook for another 5 minutes.
- Add in 1/2 cup to 1 cup of water — making sure the water is close to covering the meat and give it a good stir and put the lid on and into the over for an hour at 350°.
- Check on the beef after an hour and make sure nothing is sticking — turn the oven down to 300° and cook for another 45 minutes to an hour.
- While the beef is cooking make yourself a pot of rice or some parathas and devour this amazingly easy curry!
